On this day: 1968
The Black Power Salute took the 200m Men’s Olympic medals podium, in first and third place. Tommie Smith (gold 19.83 WR and the first man to break 20 for the 200) and John Carlos (bronze) raised the Black Power salute to collect their Mexico City Olympic medals. And created a whole new channel for the Civil Rights Movement and Civil Rights Activists.
